Terms & conditions kayak / boat / SUP rental
Renting and/or using a kayak, boat or SUP from DEK Blauwestad is at the own responsibility of the user, customer, subsequent user or borrower — hereinafter referred to as the customer. Kayak(s), boat(s) and SUP(s) are hereinafter referred to as the boat.
General
- The customer is anyone using one or more boats of DEK Blauwestad, located at Elfenbank, Pop Up no. 1-2 in Blauwestad, trading under the name DEK Blauwestad.
- The customer agrees to these carefully drafted terms of DEK Blauwestad.
- Use of a boat of DEK Blauwestad is at the customer's own responsibility.
- The customer inspects the boat for any damage before boarding.
- The customer handles the boat with care. A boat of DEK Blauwestad will not be used as a bumper/tow boat, as a toy, or for any purpose other than intended.
- Damage to or loss of the boat will be recovered from the customer.
- The customer supervises the boat during use. The boat will not be left out of sight or unattended.
Life jacket(s)
- Safety first. DEK Blauwestad wants every customer to board safely and return safely. Wearing a DEK Blauwestad life jacket is therefore mandatory and must be worn at all times.
- The life jacket is put on before boarding or using a boat, and is only taken off once the boat has been returned to DEK Blauwestad.
- As soon as a staff member indicates the life jacket may come off, it may be removed and must be handed back to a DEK staff member.
Paddle(s)
- Paddles are to be used as paddles only. Paddles may not be used as a pushing or striking tool, pushed off the bottom to move forward, hung on, or stood upon.
By using one or more boats of DEK Blauwestad, the customer agrees to all terms, conditions and rules of DEK Blauwestad.
1. Definitions
DEK Blauwestad ("DEK"): the rental company based in Blauwestad. Customer: any natural person who hires or uses a kayak, paddle, life jacket or other equipment from DEK, regardless of age or gender. Equipment: all items provided by DEK including kayaks, paddles, life jackets and accessories.
2. Applicability
These terms apply to all reservations, rental agreements and use of DEK equipment. By making a reservation or using the equipment, the customer confirms having read and accepted these terms.
3. Reservation & payment
- Reservations are paid in advance online via Stripe.
- A reservation is only confirmed after receipt of payment and email confirmation.
- Prices include VAT and are stated in euros.
- A deposit of €250 per kayak may be requested at the start of rental. It is fully returned once the equipment is returned undamaged.
4. Cancellation & changes
- Free cancellation up to 48 hours before the booked slot; full refund.
- Cancellations within 48 hours are non-refundable, unless DEK itself cancels.
- Date or slot changes — subject to availability — are free up to 48 hours before. Please call DEK.
- Late arrival does not entitle the customer to an extension or refund.
5. Responsibility & liability
Hiring and using a kayak is at the customer's own risk. DEK is not liable for injury, damage, loss or theft of personal belongings, except in case of intent or gross negligence on DEK's part. Parents or supervisors are at all times responsible for minor participants.
6. Life jacket
Wearing a life jacket is mandatory from boarding the kayak until returning it to a DEK staff member. The life jacket is provided free of charge. If not returned or damaged, €65 per jacket will be charged.
7. Use of equipment
- Handle kayaks, paddles and accessories with care and use them only as intended.
- Paddles are for paddling — not for hitting, dragging, standing on, or pushing off banks, walls or other craft.
- Deliberate collisions with walls, shores, other kayaks or vessels are not permitted.
- Removing or damaging stickers, labels or markings is not permitted.
- All accessories remain DEK property and must be fully returned.
8. Damage, loss & theft
Damage, loss or theft of equipment during the rental period is for the customer's account. Repair or replacement costs are charged at actual cost and may be deducted from the deposit. Report damage immediately to DEK staff.
9. Weather conditions
In bad weather (thunderstorms, strong winds or other unsafe conditions) DEK may cancel the rental or offer a different slot. In that case the amount is not refunded; a free new appointment can be scheduled.
10. Safety & conduct
- Instructions from DEK staff must be followed at all times.
- Use of equipment under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other substances affecting reaction time is not permitted.
- DEK may refuse customers without refund or end rental immediately in case of unsafe or undesirable conduct.
- Dogs are welcome on a short leash and under owner supervision.

DEK processes personal data in line with applicable privacy legislation (GDPR). See our privacy policy.
12. Complaints
Complaints may be submitted in writing within 14 days of the rental date via info@dekblauwestad.nl. DEK aims to respond within 14 days.
13. Applicable law
Dutch law applies exclusively to these terms and all agreements with DEK. Disputes will be submitted to the competent court in the Noord-Nederland district.
By taking the equipment into use, the customer declares:
- to have received the kayak, paddle(s) and life jacket(s) in good condition;
- to have read these terms and agreed to them;
- to fully compensate DEK Blauwestad for any damage.
